The portrait is a typographic poster over an AI image, not a photograph of the person.

Why they were chosen

By unanimous Council decision on 16 January 2020 the Municipality chose dance teacher and actor Giorgos Nikolaou: 'a devoted carnival-goer since childhood', with 25 years in the children's and grand parades, and 'an active citizen who gives generously to his fellow citizens and to the city'. As 'King Lemesios, the Maharajah of the City' he opened what the Mayor called 'the most beautiful carnival Limassol ever had', a few weeks before the pandemic.

Who they are

Dance teacher, dancer and actor from Limassol, 25 years in the parades. Because of the pandemic he kept the title in 2021 too – 'for the first time the Carnival King keeps his title two years running'. Age not published.

The float and the entrance to the city

Impressive 'Maharajah' float with his retinue and the royal family, councillors, Girl Guides majorettes and the Philharmonic; grand parade of 110 groups / 30,000+ participants.

'…to the most impressive, the best, the most beautiful carnival Limassol ever had, Carnival 2020.' (Mayor Nikos Nikolaidis at the coronation)
