Why they were chosen

On 19 December 2024 the Municipal Council chose 36-year-old Vasilis Papavasiliou, the youngest King in the institution's history. The Municipality said the choice 'confirms his special bond with the city and especially the Limassol Carnival', where he has taken part for years in original, handmade costumes of his own design: 'Vasilis is the ideal representative for the institution', combining love for Limassol with a talent for creating memorable experiences, and is expected to bring 'a breath of renewal'. He grew up in the groups of the late Toula Sykopetritou and draws inspiration from Loula Siousmith, Giorgos Mavrogenis, Dimis Mavropoulos and Lollos Giorgalettos. The same year the Municipality honoured the 'timeless carnival queen' Ritsa Koutsoudi.

Who they are

Born and raised in Limassol, aged 36 in 2025. Academic in tourism and hospitality (scholar of the School of Hotel and Tourism Management, Hong Kong Polytechnic University) and travel content creator (@vasilis_travels), who presents Cyprus at international events. Family roots in the textile trade (the 'Pafitis' shop on Agiou Andreou Street) – hence his love of colour and fabric.

The float and the entrance to the city
